Listmates,
I should have stayed with xorg 7.2, but I just had to load 7.3. I'll
learn one of these days.
The problem. compiz was working in 7.2 with the 8.42 ati driver. Now
compiz will not load with fusion-icon anymore and a compiz --replace &
gives the black screen on death.
After installing 7.3 I went ahead and rebuilt and reinstalled the 8.42
driver. fglrx loads fine and gives the same good (for my laptop) frame
rates with glxgears and fgl_glxgears:
14:07 rankin-p35a~> glxgears
13088 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2617.559 FPS
13216 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2642.825 FPS
14:08 rankin-p35a~> fgl_glxgears
Using GLX_SGIX_pbuffer
2758 frames in 5.0 seconds = 551.600 FPS
2827 frames in 5.0 seconds = 565.400 FPS

I have configured the libraries the same as required to use compiz with
7.2:

fusion-icon will start, but if I select compiz as the WM, compiz never
loads. As mentioned above, a manual attempt to start compiz from the
console results in a hardlock.
Any thoughts on what I can check? Also, if I can't get 7.3 to work, can
I just uninstall 7.3 and reinstall 7.2 vi yast? Is there an easier way?
