I've got no idea about xine, because I don't use it.
But, maybe, your video setting is wrong, I susepect.

BTW, for MPLayer, the config files is;

  ~/.mplayer/config

In this file, there exits the video settings line like this;

##################
# video settings #
##################

And I set it as follows;

# Specify default video driver (see -vo help for a list).
vo=x11
