Just letting you guys know that I wasn’t lying about beta 2 being ready for release. Unfortunately, we’re still waiting for the Ognl 2.6.4 final release (I got a pre-release version this morning, but there were a couple problems).
I wanted to let you all know what the state of WebWork was, both version 2.0 and 1.3.
As you probably know, Hani has started cleaning up WebWork 1.3 to get a good 1.3.1 release out the door. He’ll continue to maintain the 1.x codebranch as long as it is necessary. New features may be added, but I’m guessing that nothing too earth-shattering will be added since compatibility is a driving motivation for continuing this branch.
WebWork 2.0 development continues daily. Today I got more than half of the 1.x compatibility support worked out, including support for the older webwork.* classes and the entire 1.3 JSP taglibs. I’ll be adding support for views.properties, actions.xml, and the old EL (either at runtime or via a conversion script) in the coming days.
After compatibility is finished, there are less than 30 open bugs between now and 2.0 final. We’ll crank through those as fast as we can and get a final version of WebWork (complete with docs, that’s one of the 2.0 tasks) out for you guys.
Many thanks to Hani for helping out with WebWork 1.3 and to all the contributors helping me with the 2.0 branch.
