Yeah. It's not a big task, after all. (Maybe it is and I just don't notice, since it's so trivial to do with ant.)
The latter is the case. It is a very big task, and you could easily increase your development efficiency by 100% if you worked with an exploded ear rather than earing and deploying each time.
Examine the exploded format on your hard drive, and set your IDE compiler to output into whatever folder the classes are going into. Then you just need to restart the server. If your server supports class reloading, you may not even have to do that unless you make major configuration changes.
