Hello Daniel

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my request. At last I am getting
somewhere

I have done the following:

Seen the Mac Address appear in the PXE clients

I have edited it so that it now appears in the ThinClient List

On my DHCP server (which is a different one to the server that has the OTC
Manager). It’s a Win 2008 server so I don’t believe I have a bootp option
but I do have PXEClient under the Scope Options and Server Options which I
entered the IP address of the client on.

Hello!!

First I´ve had the same problem. So I tell you how I solved the prob for ME.

At the first time as you recognized, the clients have to be converted by the
admin over the manager on the thinclient server. So as I raed, you have done
that point.

When your client pc starts you have to decide whether you want to boot from
hdd or boot over the network by pushing a key, mostly "F8" or "F11", BEFORE
the pc tries to boot...

But that was not the only problem for me. In my case the main prob was the
DHCP-Server. You have to take care to let the dhcp work with "bootp"-option.
With that the clients AND the server are able to resolve an IP-adress
WITHOUT an OS.

After two or three attempts of booting the client it was now possible.

Greetings,
Daniel

Subject: [openthinclient-user] getting started

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get started with this. I am
at a loss!

I’ve managed to get openthinclient manager onto the server. I’ve managed to
‘see’ the pxe clients and converted them into thin clients, but now don’t
know how to boot up the thin client to the server.

One client didn’t have an OS on it but it just hangs on the boot up and the
other had Windows XP on and just boots normally. How to I get it to boot to
the Openthinclient?

All the above sounds like I am a complete newby and have no idea what I am
doing, and you would be right! Please help!

I need a tutorial at a very basic level to get me started with this.

Many thanks

PWest
