Thanks for the Fix! Now i have done some further testing with bigger sizes. The maximum was 100 mb of "A"´s and it doesn’t look like openvas has a problem with it. But is it a good idea to not limit the size? (i think when its not on localhost the NVT timeout is one limit...) When i try random chars (eg. dd if=/dev/urandom bs=1M count=5) there is a chance, that the scan gets stuck, the bigger the payload the better the chance. The idea behind all my testing was breaking the OpenVAS Transport Protocol but because there is no API and no way to look in the communication its not that easy. event task:MESSAGE:2016-03-31 18h14.35 UTC:5872: Status of task Random Payload Test (627eb5e3-245f-4fdb-9024-616a346095cc) has changed to Running md main:WARNING:2016-03-31 18h14.48 UTC:5872: Reallocing to 2097152 md main:WARNING:2016-03-31 18h14.48 UTC:5872: sql_prepare_internal: sqlite3_prepare failed: near "í ö ": syntax error md main:WARNING:2016-03-31 18h14.48 UTC:5872: sql_x_internal: sql_prepare failed md main:WARNING:2016-03-31 18h14.48 UTC:5872: NVT 'ÜÊÃLZ@ð=ØÔ"%¤³ é Pjî Ã]{`ô 'í … íO' not found. If i press stop it hangs at "stop requested“ and i have to restart the manager to start the scan again.
