Looks like plugin is alright, are you able to see your plugin in scan
configuration?
I think, rebuild is not happening properly, check by running again
openvasmd --rebuild
Are there any specific best practices for debugging scripts ?
For compilation you can run,
openvas-nasl -pXL Amazon_DynamoDB_detection.nasl
Running NVT from command line,
openvas-nasl -tX IP_Address Amazon_DynamoDB_detection.nasl
These steps can help to debug the NVT.

Also , I have an associated challenge, what is the best way to test
NVTs before uploading them, how can they be made to generate responses
similar to the actual report in GSA.
