Meeting summary for 14 January 2026:

 *

   *Updated: Release 2.7*
Stable release is near but there were some last minute bug fixes
   including a security fix.
We decided instead of releasing a stable version today, to go for
   one more release candidate, rc5.
OpenVPN 2.7rc5 is intended to be released tomorrow.
The stable release will follow after that within a few weeks or so,
   most likely around 28 January.

 *

   *New: Release 2.6.18*
A small bugfix release will be coming soon.

 *

   *Updated: forums situation*
Eduardo from website team is currently working on the forums.
Due to holidays this was on hold for a bit but we're back on it now.
Most things work now, there are some inconveniences that will
require manual intervention like removing spam posts and handling
   duplicate account issues.
We will continue to work on it and test it and make it ready for a
   big switch.

 *

   *Updated: mbedtls support*
The old mbedtls2 is EOL so that was removed as per 2.7rc4.
mbedtls3 support is currently in 2.7rc4 and will be in 2.7.0.
That version of mbedtls (3.6 LTS release) is still supported until
   March 2027 at least.
The plan is to get to mbedtls4 implementation in OpenVPN 2.7 in some
   version after 2.7.0.

 *

   *Updated: community meetup 2026*
When: exact date to be determined, a poll will be sent out to
regular members. Roughly in september/october timeframe.
   Where: Tentatively in Paderborn, Germany.
   Meeting room:
   Potentiallyhttps://www.welcome-hotels.com/en/hotels/paderborn/events/
Beer: recommendation against local paderborner beer, although it is
   cheap.

As always you're welcome to join at #openvpn-meeting on Libera IRC network every Wednesday at 14:00 Central European Time.

Kind regards,
Johan Draaisma
