Sorry if this doesn't match your problem but it sounded very familar, so
I thought I repost this :-)

For arm, the linaro gcc is used and this compiler has the required patch 
applied in
840-armv4_pass_fix-v4bx_to_ld.patch. The board specific configuration of uClibc 
is
no longer required. The current toolchains compiles an armv4 target OK with 
EABI.
