That's great, I was already having my scripts invoke openvpn with the --ifconfig-noexec parameter and call ifconfig in the up script by myself to circumvent the problem with a unpatched openvpn (2.3_alpha3) package. That won't be necessary anymore if the patch makes it into the 2.3 release.
