As long as git and source package archives (and their mirrors/proxies) still work for one to build older releases (this is an extremely common need AFAIK), I see no need to mirror the official compiled binaries everywhere.

An archive host would be enough for the precompiled/signed binaries IMHO. But that's my personal opinion.

In that case, maybe archive.openwrt.org should provide rsync service?

It depends on how much load it would cause for archive.openwrt.org, I suppose.

It *is* a good thing to provide rsync access, if the machine can handle that (and nobody is abusing it). Also, it would be nice if a mirror could drop in an extra config file or script to *also* mirror *selected* older releases from archive.openwrt.org *if it wants to*.
