Hi,
to install openwrt on the TG582n I had to follow a pretty painful process.
In my case as well the native bootloader didn't accept any non-thompson
firmware. This painful process funnels down to directly programming the
flash with an open bootloader (CFE if I remember correctly) and then
flashing openwrt. This requires some soldering on the board and a parallel
port, but fortunately it doesn't require the JTAG interface.

(unfortunately it's in Italian only) and it eventually worked.
Too bad both WiFi and USB weren't working, so it was pretty useless to
have openwrt on it, and I reverted back to the original firmware.
I might give it another shot in next months, with a newer openwrt release.
