 I have this issue as well on CHAOS CALMER (15.05, r46767),  Linux gw
 3.18.20 #1 Fri Sep 4 21:55:57 CEST 2015 mips GNU/Linux.
 pppd just hangs and the interface is not renamable by pppd itself. I can
 ifdown wan and rename it manually, but its only a matter of time until it
 hangs again in DW state.

 Whenever pppd hangs it prints this message to kernel log, and indeed only
 a reboot makes it go away.
 However few minutes after the reboot problems are starting to happen
 again.
