LEDE is basically OpenWrt + updates. So sysupgrade will work fine and I am
right now using packages from openwrt-routing and openwrt-packages in
LEDE.
The OpenWrt guys should get their stuff together and move the core
development to LEDE. The non-core development can still be in OpenWrt. But
having a core which starts to rod doesn't help anyone and just destroys
the image of the related projects openwrt-routing, openwrt-luci and
openwrt-packages
