It would also really help threading and continuity if you'd respond to
the original thread instead of a daily digest.

The only cables I can find for the SL45 are USB-based; if so, this is
the wrong device - you're looking for /dev/ttyUSBN, where N is the Nth
USB serial adapter you've attached; for your purposes it's probably
'0'.

That's minicom attempting to initialize the 'modem' - original use was
for dialing.  Enter the configuration menu ('minicom -s' as root or
'ctrl-a o'), select 'Modem and dialing', and  wipe out the init/reset
strings.

That should get you where you need to be; if not, we'll go from there,
but your question may be better served in a minicom-specific ML.
