looking at the files and patches under target/linux, i'm not clear
on how all of that is applied given a specific version of the kernel,
and i think that's what got me into trouble in trying to update the
patches from 2.6.25 to 2.6.26.

if we consider, say, the 2.6.25 kernel for brcm47xx, i can see the
possibly relevant files and directories under target/linux/:

  generic-2.6/
    base-files/
    config-2.6.25
    config-default
    files/
    files-2.6.25/
    patches/
    patches-2.6.25/
  brcm47xx/
    base-files -> ../brcm-2.4/base-files
    config-2.6.25
    files/
    files-2.6.25/
    patches-2.6.25/

so what of the above would be relevant for a 2.6.25 kernel for
brcm47xx, and in what order would it be applied? if there's a web
page somewhere that covers this, a pointer to it would be just fine.
once i clarify the process, i'm betting i can finish the support for
2.6.26 (unless someone is already on the case).
