As I understand, there's some partition of the flash memory that stores
"calibration data"(?) from the factory, which means that if you
overwrite that partition with another router's calibration it will cause
less than optimal wifi communication.
The meaning of "mumbojumbo" is "something I didn't quite understand".
Btw, should anyone else on this list want this router (DIR-300 B5) to
experiment and continue the work, our hackerspace has some to spare if
the shipping's not too much :)
