Dear Scott,

we have the Debian 13 upgrade on our roadmap but as Debian 12 has no known issues at this time that prevent a stable operation of OpenXPKI and it also still gets security patches, I do not see any urgency for an upgrade. It is a community project, all ressources to build packages are available, so if there is a personal need you are free to make OpenXPKI running on Debian 13 and if you contribute the required patches back to the project, we will be happy to incorporate them for further use.

best regards

Oliver

Dear Community,

Debian 13 was officially released on *09 August 2025* and is now the latest stable Debian release, providing important improvements in security, stability, performance, and long-term maintainability.

Given that OpenXPKI has a *significant footprint across multiple countries and organizations*, it is increasingly important that the OpenXPKI platform keeps pace with current, supported operating system versions. Continued availability of OpenXPKI on Debian 13 is not merely a convenience; it is *necessary to ensure the security, reliability, and long-term sustainability of OpenXPKI deployments*.

Many organizations are actively planning or already moving their infrastructure to Debian 13. Delayed support may create unnecessary barriers for existing users and could discourage new deployments where operating-system lifecycle and security requirements are critical considerations.

We therefore strongly request the *OpenXPKI community management and development team to prioritize and expedite Debian 13 support*, including compatibility validation and any required updates to the installation, packaging, and documentation.

Providing timely support for Debian 13 would be an important step in ensuring that the OpenXPKI ecosystem remains *secure, modern, maintainable, and aligned with the requirements of its growing international user base*.

Your consideration and support in treating this as a priority would be highly appreciated.

Regards,
Scott Thomas
