Hi All,

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the Real-World Cyber
Security Risks and Defences Side Meeting at IETF 124 in Montreal. It was great
to have a range of perspectives in the room and online to share knowledge on
current practical cyber security issues and mitigations, and I hope you all
gained something from the discussion.

I am aware that the side meeting clashed with WG sessions meaning that not
everyone could attend. For those who weren't able to attend the side meeting,
the recording is available here (including the meeting chat which can be found
on the right hand side)
https://ietf.webex.com/recordingservice/sites/ietf/recording/85cefc3b2f0a4fa58600acb2900dd2ba/playback

As a brief summary, the key points that I drew out are below. For those who
attended please do add anything that jumped out to you.

  * We had 3 presentations from different perspectives (thank you in
particular to Chris Box and EKR for preparing these) followed by open
discussion.
  * We discussed impacts of recent cyber attacks and the scale of damage that
was seen across multiple sectors.
  * We focused on a range of topics including (but not limited to)
ransomware, advanced threat actors, memory safety, supply chain considerations,
AI impact on security practices, vulnerability management, and network
resilience.
  * We discussed how combining security and operational disciplines is part
of defending against cyber security threats and discussed ways that IETF can
support this.

Thank you also to those who have reached out with suggestions of how to carry
this work forward and identified topics of interest for discussion in future.
As highlighted in discussions following the meeting, we are looking to set up a
mailing list for further knowledge sharing and would be keen to hold future
meetings. Please do forward this on to anyone who may be interested in
contributing.

Best,
Michael
