Where did you get 3.3 from? We haven't released that yet - the latest public version is 3.1

Also i take it i am ok to have a centos 4.7 host with a ubuntu jaunty
slave?

No, because the master sends binary files to the slaves (to aid with upgrading and monitoring) so the slaves should be on the same OS/arch as the master else the compiled binaries wont function correctly (some daemons and plugins will work as its perl code, but there is a fair bit of compiled C which is unlikely to work correctly).
