A host goes down - you get an email. It'd be nice to have the option
of a traceroute of the host in the notification, for those of us
monitoring networks. Could manifest itself with "run command and
display output in notification when event runs".
That sounds like a good idea. Event handlers are usually about
restarting services, but we've been thinking about how to use them to
capture more diagnostic information. But nothing concrete yet.
A host comes back up - you get an email with the current date, but
not the duration. Is that possible to be added? Maybe the correct
traceroute as well?
The duration should be easily achievable as there are macros available
in Nagios for that. See the notify-by-email check definition and you
should be able to add in the macro for duration.
Note that changes to the raw Nagios files will be overwritten on a
reload, while changes to nagconfgen (which generate the nagios files)
will be lost on an upgrade.
If the "duration of event" notification is not in the pipeline,
would that be a task that would be sponsorable?
Longer term, we'd like some web interface so you can design your own
notification messages.
