Hi all

New to OpsView - I have it running smoothly but have a question about
switch monitoring via SNMP

I've read what I can find thus far and still don't have a clear
understanding of how to address the issue of fully monitoring a switch
via SNMP ... for instance I have a dell PowerConnect 3448 stack , 3
units , 144 ports

SNMP lists all of the interfaces - ( developers please note a check
all/uncheck all here would be fantastic ) , I selected all of them but
now understand this may be a bad idea as they are listed in
administrative state up , but the link is down and are acknowledged by
OpsView as a critical even and generate an alert. My limited
understanding of what it would mean in relationship to this thread -

l

 - is that I would need to shut down those interfaces on the switch and
that no one would be able to utilize the port until I activate the port
... not really what I am looking for

I read some on SNMP trap filtering but in that case I didn't see a
correlation to applying it to my situation - I want to track all of the
stats for the ports , I want to know when a port goes up or goes down (
state change only ) yet don't want consider an unused port a critical
event for the device being monitored

Any advice or pointers appreciated

Thanks in advance !

Chris
