Ok I have more info about the Issue with our D-link switches (D-link
models DGS-1216T & DGS-1248T). One of the engineers has emailed me an
explanation of the exact issue; if anyone can assist in a solution I
would be very grateful.

The switches do support SNMP and Opsview can use some of the data that
is available.
The issue is that in Opsview, the check that measures traffic throughput
on the individual ports isnt working.

In Opsview there is an option to query the switch for all of it's
interfaces, which works fine (using both SNMP v1 and 2c), all the ports
and indexed and show up as expected.
Usually one can then select a check box for each port if you want to
monitor it. You then set a warning (80%) and critical level (90%)
threshold for throughput on each port monitored.

Unfortunately Opsview isnt getting back any data from the switch about
how much traffic is passing through each port, so the alert will never
be triggered.
We tried to snmpwalk the switch from the Linux machine (which prints out
all of the data available via SNMP) to try and find the correct SNMP MIB
or OID, but could not find the relevant string that reports on traffic
throughput for a port. The closest we could find was the interface speed
which is, as expected, a fixed number depending on what the port is
operating at (10/100/1000) so not much use for measuring traffic levels.

Perhaps someone on the list can explain which MIB/OID they are using to
gather this info as we couldnt find this (if it is there..)

We also tried to query the switch using Cacti just to see if it could
graph the ports but that also returned no results.
