Just a little more info :

monitoring:/usr/local/nagios/libexec# ./check_http -H ***.*****.** -S -v
CRITICAL - Cannot make SSL connection
15510:error:140773F2:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:sslv3 alert
unexpected message:s23_clnt.c:578:
GET / HTTP/1.1
User-Agent: check_http/v1.4.14 (nagios-plugins 1.4.14)
Connection: close
Host: ***.*****.**

Search on Google showed some error in the ssl version 3 code from the
check. But I can't find out what is going wrong and how to fix it.

Regards,
Peter

What happens if you run the check from the prompt i.e.

/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_http -H <host> -S -v (NB the -v ) for
