Position : automation Engineer with Chef conifguration Experience Location : Minneapolis, MN, Duration : 6-12 months Contract Requirements / Responsibilities: The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the University of Minnesota seeks a Chef configuration and automation engineer to participate in multiple cross-functional service-teams and create and implement configuration and automation cookbooks under a Chef / GitHub framework. Primary duties will include creation or incorporation of community Chef cookbooks, and working with teams to incorporate these recipes into test, then operational, state. This position will work independently on problem-solving tasks, as well as cooperatively with service teams. Ideal candidates will have excellent technical and interpersonal skills in Chef, GitHub, and development background and strong Unix operating system system administration. Experience with creation of Chef recipes and cookbooks. Experience and expertise in various scripting languages and using these languages in support of integration of Chef framework to various API’s (e.g., VMWare). Experience with integrating automation within a VMWare ESX environment. Preferred experience or qualifications: Excellent problem solving, organization, presentation and interpersonal communication skills. Experience with Linux redhat operating system administration. Experience with implementation of dev/ops frameworks in an environment similar in size and complexity to UofMN. Duties: Provide technical support, troubleshooting, design, maintenance, and administration of Chef driven automation and configuration environment. Provide technical leadership on complex projects. Provide subject matter expertise for creation of Chef recipes, cookbooks and architectural design for operational use. Create and debug assigned automation and configuration tasks, documenting each and ensuring operational teams obtain knowledge transfer of same. Recommend changes in processes and procedures to streamline operations. Work across teams and with team members to mentor and advance understanding and proficiency of operational use of Chef automation and configuration. Script, document, and test repeatable tasks in supported scripting languages and Chef driven automation and configuration.
