This position will perform the following primary duties:
1. Performs administrative duties on the EMC Storage Subsystems as follows:
Monitor system performance and remediate issues.
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
Assignment of storage, securing data and setting up SLOs as required.
Manage storage and forecast future storage needs.
Monitor space utilization.
Notify appropriate contact and work with technician to resolve any
hardware/software issues.
Coordinate with EMC to implement code updates for appliances.
2. Performs Backup and recovery administrative duties as follows:
Manage backups
Check error logs.
Create and manage reports and dashboards
Maintain scripts and automations.
Manage Data Domain available space.
Validate offsite data replication.
Notify appropriate contact and work with technician to resolve any
hardware/software issues.
Monitor tape utilization
Monitor Remedy and perform data restores as required.
Work with appropriate contact to resolve any issues related to backups.
3. Performs administrative duties on the Cisco MDS 9710 SAN Switches as
follows:
Check error logs
Notify users of any port errors.
Monitor port usage.
Resolve issues with Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) on SAN attached clients.
Configure zoning to meet security requirements.
Actively monitor equipment and work with technician to resolve any
hardware/software issues.
Troubleshoot connectivity issues.
Recommend solutions for future growth.
3. Disaster Recovery (DR) solution Administration as follows:
Establish an enterprise DR solution.
Work with all critical application’s owners to develop application
level DR solutions.
Develop a DR test plan.
Test application DR solutions for all critical applications.
Test at least annually a full DR situation.
This position will also perform the following secondary duties:
4. Assemble/install hardware
5. Configure servers
6. Install Windows server software/drivers
7. Configure network printers
8. Connect/disconnect devices to the network in Harrisburg and remote
office sites
9. Respond to network/server related trouble calls
10. Research and resolve issues with all server software
11. Test and install server software update/upgrades
12. Proactively identify and resolve problems
13. Place service calls for servers and network equipment
14. Assist service providers in resolving service calls
15. Assist in standard configuration development
16. Create/update disaster recovery plans
17. Participate in disaster recovery drills
18. Work with PennDOT partners and employees including IT coordinators in
deployment activities
19. Attend meetings with PennDOT developers, users, and partners
20. Perform Technical Lead duties for a variety of projects
Requirements:
Strong Knowledge of VMware configuration and management.
Strong Knowledge of EMC Data Protection Suite and related software
Strong Knowledge of Avamar server backup software.
Strong knowledge of EMC systems (XtremIO, Data Domain, VPLEX, VMAX3, and
ISILON).
Strong Knowledge of Cisco's MDS 9710 SAN Switches.
Strong knowledge of PC operations, printer operations, file server
operations, print server operations, and network operations.
Strong knowledge of Tivoli’s Storage Manager.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint,
Access, MS Project).
Working knowledge of Windows and Windows products, personal computer
software set up and installation, PC connectivity products and PC hardware
connectivity.
Demonstrated ability to establish and meet work schedules within limited
time frames and under tight deadlines and a willingness to work off hours
as the need arises in support of changes.
Effective verbal communication skills are required to work with all levels
of the organization including management, vendors, and various PENNDOT
personnel. Effective writing skills are required in order to document work
performed.
Superior interpersonal and customer service skills required including
ability to work effectively in a team environment. High level of
proficiency in effective problem solving required.
