Description/Responsibility:  Client is seeking a Database Engineer for its
Originations Team within Application Development.  This team provides
ongoing development and support for SallieMae’s Originations applications
and partners with teams across the Enterprise to build innovative
solutions.


• You will design and review data models, database schemes, and SQL/queries
• Work with App/Dev, Data Modelers, DBAs, infrastructure and vendors to
review and implement changes
• Establish and implement best practices for database structure and
management
• Tune performance to ensure our servers and applications are highly
responsive
• Utilize existing APIs and develop new APIs as needed
• Proactively identify and fix DB related performance issues
• Develop and test database enhancements for improving performance,
scalability, and reliability



Required Qualifications:
• BS or MS in Computer Science
• 7+ years of relevant experience in enterprise database management
• Work experience with SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2014 and/or 2016
• Strong understanding of SQL, its concept and applications
• Develop standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of
software and to protect vulnerable information
• Optimizing, troubleshooting and outstanding analytical skills with the
ability to lead development teams and analysts to make changes to modify
existing database management systems
• Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time
and cost requirement to accomplish projects
• Recommends solutions by defining database physical structure and
functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery
specifications
• Work as part of the project team to coordinate database development and
determine project scope and limitations
• Identify and evaluate industry best practices and trends in database
management to serve as a source of information and advice to upper
management
• Ability to analyze high-volume data against business requirements to
identify deliverables, gaps and inconsistencies
• Ability to handle multiple projects while being flexible to ongoing
priority changes
• Strong written and verbal skills and the ability to communicate technical
ideas to non-technical people
