Baxter strategy for developing and running systems around common functional needs is to leverage specifically defined and supported “Enterprise Platforms” that feature an integrated set of global servers, core software and services. These Enterprise Platforms (EPs) are used by development teams representing all Baxter Businesses, Regions, and Functions globally. One EP example is the “Global Information Platform (GIP)”, used by Baxter developers to build and run Business Intelligence (BI) systems. A key strategy to ensure Baxter EP stability and high performance was the development of a new custom built Enterprise Platforms Monitoring (EPM) System. This system polls major infrastructure and application components running on Baxter EPs, generates alerts when defined thresholds are exceeded, and writes polling and alert data collected to its internal database. EPM is scheduled for Production deployment on 3/1/2011. This engagement will involve working with EP Architects to define requirements, and then produce dashboards and operational trend reports needed for trend analysis (e.g. capacity planning), operational analysis (e.g. server consolidation), and basic platform operations reporting intended for developer community, senior management, and internal use. Key Responsibilities and Experience Required General: • Create new, or modify existing, model(s) as needed against monitoring metrics data warehouse on SQL Server • Work with EPM project and technical leads to develop new reports and dashboards • Create new Event Studio agents to support monitoring activities Technical: • A bachelor’s degree or relevant advanced degree in IT preferred. • 8 or more years of related experience in data warehouse and data mart architecting, designing, and modeling of data. • 5 or more years of proficiency with the Cognos 8 BI suite creating reports, dashboards and event studio monitoring • Proficient understanding of Wintel and Unix-based systems performance metrics, e.g.: memory & disk utilization; I/O, CPU and network bandwidth consumption • Experience with relational and multi-dimensional (OLAP) data modeling. • Knowledge of SQL, OLAP, and relational star and snowflake schemas. • Knowledge or SQL Server 2005+ and Oracle 10g+ environments, including performance metrics • Proficient in the use of SQL. • Working knowledge of Microsoft software (Project, Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio). • Proven technical leadership and project management skills. Ability to execute with minimal management supervision. • Outstanding interpersonal communication and written skills, with the ability to work in a team environment. • Ability to handle multiple tasks and creatively approach situations. • Ability to deal with stressful situations in a composed and constructive manner.
