Duration 1 year Principle Focus: Database Administration, design, optimization and support The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for designing, developing, implementing and maintaining databases and providing database administration support for a large scale digital media asset management system. The position requires a solid understanding of logical/physical database modeling, database design, and database administration. Experience with complex stored procedures and triggers is essential, along with that ability to take innovative approaches to solving problems. Knowledge of data security principles is also vital. Successful candidates must be able to quickly understand the business processes to ensure that database structures and data flows are designed to meet business requirements. Current knowledge of the technology best practices and trends is required for the recommendation of methods to leverage technology to gain and maintain a competitive advantage. RESPONSIBILITIES · Design and develop databases and processes to support the management of large volumes of digital media assets. · Provide database administration support for existing system functions. · Translate business and technical requirements into physical database designs. · Provide design recommendations on database related solutions. · Perform data mapping, conversion and importing from external databases. · Integrate/migrate to newer software versions as applicable. · Assist in resolution of escalated support issues. · Generate standardized and custom reports based on requests. · Work effectively with technical staff within and outside their area. · Ensure that database changes are managed according to best-practices. · Ensuring data integrity is maintained and processes deliver maximum performance. · Maintain current knowledge of the technology industry, including the leading tools and best practices. · Build database scheme, tables, procedures and permissions · Set up data sharing and disk partitioning · Develop database utilities and automated reporting · Create shell scripts for task automation · Analyze and sustain capacity and performance requirements · Analyze, consolidate and tune database for optimal efficiency · Monitor systems and platforms for availability. · Oversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication and failover · Restore and recover corrupted databases · Install and test upgrades and patches · Implement security and encryption · Provide general Windows server support including operating system patch management, SQL and Oracle service patch deployments etc. · Provide 24/7 operations support on a rotational basis as required · Evaluate and recommend new database technologies, DB optimization tuning as well as best practice configurations. REQUIREMENTS Experienced Database administrator with at least 8+ years experience configuring and supporting SQL and Oracle databases, running on *Wintel*and *UNIX/Linux platforms*. · Advanced knowledge of Microsoft *SQL Server* and Oracle. · Advanced knowledge of physical *data modeling*, *performance tuning*, backup/recovery, and SQL Server data security. · Advanced capabilities in developing complex stored procedures and triggers. · Develop scripts to support DBA functions for Microsoft SQL databases. · Knowledge of how databases interact with *front-end* web solutions. · Knowledge of *data mirroring* and replication methods. · Awareness of digital media – audio, video, photography, graphics – and various related formats. · Exceptional communications skills -- ability to clearly and effectively communicate -- both verbal and written -- with business users/customers and other team members. · BS in programming/systems, information technology, computer science or equivalent experience · Specialized Microsoft SQL Server training certification preferred. · Minimum of 5 years of strong production DBA experience with Microsoft SQL Server including design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance and administration. · Proficiency in Windows and Linux environments, including scripting. · Self starter and eager to learn new technologies. · Exceptional team player.
