Title : Sr Network Developer – Python

Position Summary
This is an Engineering Level 4 position within the Network Engineering group
reporting to the Manager of Network Engineering Development Services. The NE
Development Services group has responsibility for developing tools,
provisioning, and automation of processes to reduce manual error prone work.
The network developer will play a lead role in back end automated provisioning
of network devices, both in the core, as well as at the customer premise
location.
This position requires a combination of strong software development and
networking skills.
There is also opportunity to do embedded coding as well as advanced synthetic
network tests.
Qualifications
Education: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
Experience:
o 7-11 years of directly related engineering experience.
o Minimum of 7 years experience in software development.
Requirements:
o Expert knowledge of Python 2.6+/3.x.
o Experience with Object Orientated software design/development languages,
threads (pseudo, light weight OS), multiprocessing, fundamental data structures
(hash, list, arrays, linked lists, b/b+ trees, semaphores) and highly parallel
systems design.
o Experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle).
o Familiarity with Ubuntu, Red Hat, or various Linux/Unix distributions from a
programming/user perspective (standard libraries, system calls).
Strong knowledge:
o SQL and query optimization.
o Knowledge of networking L2/L3 protocols (such Spanning-tree, OSPF, BGP, ISIS,
DNS).
Pluses:
o OpenStack development highly desirable.
o Experience in XML, SOAP, web services related technologies (Schema, XPath,
XQuery, and XSLT etc.).
o Experience in web-based systems and client-server development.
o Knowledge of Juniper and Cisco Router automation APIs.
o Knowledge of network hardware and network routing protocols.
o Any Network certifications (CCNA, CCDA, CCIE, JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIE)
o C sockets level network programming.
o General knowledge of Cisco IOS/XR and Juniper router configuration.
o Knowledge of network transmission at all 7 layers of the OSI model and 4
layers of the TCP/IP model with concentration on layers 2, 2.5, and 3.
o Experience with V/MPLS, MEF, Netconf, Yang, CORBA.
Main Responsibilities
o Areas of development will include automation of configuration, device and
service discovery, analysis & reporting of key metrics related to said efforts.
o Participate in the software tool development lifecycle including
specification, design, implementation, testing and documentation.
o Work within an agile environment, with emphasis on SCRUM.
o Maintain and enhance existing software applications based on new requirement
and customer feedback.
o Evaluate, recommend and adopt new technologies, tools and libraries.
o Work independently and provide clear documented status of work activities and
business issues that impact the department.
o Provide technical tier 4 support during the rollout of new products /
services as required.
o Participate on interdepartmental teams to support organizational goals.
o Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned.
