*JOB Description – Duties and Responsibilities*
*DEPARTMENTS ROLE:*
Our Clients Data Feed Direct (RDF-D) is a product providing a fully managed,
low latency direct feed solution that targets in particular algorithmic
trading clients. Leveraging our client’s industry standard RIC codes and
IDN data model, it can be integrated into clients' existing RMDS backbone
infrastructures. RDF-D was launched in the US in 2005 and in Europe and
Asia in 2006.
The global RDF-D Development group is divided into three regional groups
covering Asia, Europe and America. Each regional group is responsible for
developing new feed handlers for local markets in accordance with the
priorities set by the business. Additionally, each group also needs to
maintain the existing launched feed handlers by implementing code changes
for mandatory feed upgrades as well as for functional and data enhancements.
Key challenges for the whole team in 2008 will be to further improve latency
and throughput rates, to add a significant number of new feeds and to ensure
high quality service for existing clients. All of these will need
enthusiastic and knowledgeable developers.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Complete the objectives of each assignment (typically project tasks)
- Participate in project planning sessions with team members to analyse
development requirements and occasionally work with project teams to define
scope for each project
- To develop and integrate applications per written specifications. May
also be responsible for writing moderate to complex design specifications
- To translate technical requirements into application code and modules
- Interface with the Business Analysts and Technical Team Leads to ensure
the proper requirements are understood and being met
- Interface with QA to ensure the application performs as, or better,
than expected
- To aid in the preparation of status updates for projects
- Make moderate to complex modifications to existing software
applications and modules in accordance with written specifications and
industry standards
- Develop software application modules using disciplined software
development processes
- Perform unit tests on applications written by self and others
- Write additional unit tests for new functional requirements
- Take part in reviews of own work. Take part in reviews of the work of
colleagues
*JOB SPECIFICATIONS – REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE *
- 5-10 years professional C++ experience
- Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- Experience of formal software development lifecycle
- Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio is desired
- Good understanding of programming and troubleshooting techniques within
a real time application environment
- Working experience in writing and debugging multithreaded applications
- Good communication skills, including understanding requirements,
verifying expectations, and written documentation
- Good understanding of principles, theories, practices and techniques
for managing activities involved in planning, managing and implementing
projects and programs
- Ability to thoroughly test code, including performance testing
- Ability to provide realistic timelines, and meet them, is a must
- A customer service focus
- Knowledge of communications protocols, such as TCP/IP, and experience
of distributed networks an advantage
- Understanding of financial markets, market data is an advantage.
