*Project Description:* The DOH/OHIP Data Integration Project has been initiated to provide wider and quicker access to Medicaid data while assuring the confidentiality of Medicaid recipient-specific information in accordance with HIPAA requirements. In the past, OHIP typically received requests for both raw and aggregated data that required the development of customized programs to query many small databases stored on individuals' PCs. The data was then transmitted to the requestors in various ways, frequently as text files or spreadsheets on CDs, portable hard drives, tapes or attached to e-mail. In an effort to facilitate and expedite access to Medicaid data, OHIP now utilizes numerous business intelligence tools to allow direct and rapid access to data from remote locations, while at the same time maintaining HIPAA compliance for highly sensitive data.
