The candidate filling this Oracle DBA-Lead position will develop, deploy and
support development, OAT, Stage and Production databases. This includes
database design, application development support, and database production
support. The candidate will also schedule, set up and deploy new
infrastructure database computers.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be responsible for:
a.. Performs all Oracle Database Administration related activities for
major ETS projects independently with minimal or no supervision.
b.. Strong capability and ability to resolve highly technical and complex
database and infrastructure related issues on their own before they impact
production and ETS business.
c.. Provides technical expertise to the development of solutions for such
items as DBMS tools and utilities usage, database administration, backup and
recovery, database performance tuning and monitoring.
d.. Performs database migrations, upgrades and structure migrations.
e.. Ability to influence development organizations to comply with database
best practices and ETS database standards and practices.
f.. Runs transaction access path analysis sessions with application
developers, analyzing specifications and code to ensure that data access and
database designs are as efficient as possible. Make recommendations for
improvements in these areas, if necessary.
g.. Fully utilizes CASE tools to develop, or modify, physical database
designs from logical designs, using the logical design, discussion with the
Data Analyst, application development reviews, and documented results from
transaction access path analysis sessions as input.
h.. Assures quality of database analysis and design across projects, thus
enabling company-wide data reusability.
i.. Trouble-shoots database and/or software problems as they apply to
design, implementation, or installation activities.
j.. Schedules and coordinates database maintenance activities including
such items as database reorganizations and restructures.
k.. Coordinates and/or participates in database stress tests, analyzes
results, and makes recommendations for design or coding changes based upon
those results.
l.. Participates in on-call, overnight off-hour production problem
resolution activities.
m.. Develops and maintains DBMS related standards and procedures, knows
where they are located, and makes full use of them. Follows ETS software
development processes.
n.. Researches, evaluates, and tests new software and DBMS related tools
and facilities as they pertain to the existing DBMS environment, database
designs, procedures, and applications.
o.. Monitors current DBMS performance and develops procedures, where
necessary, to improve the DBMS environment as required.
p.. Identifies and supports quality improvement initiatives.
q.. Performs other assignments to comply with the SR&T corporate purpose
and mission to add business value, increase revenue, decrease costs, improve
productivity, and support the strategic initiative/directive.
r.. Complies with all ETS security and audit standards. Ensures security of
company information by ensuring database is secure and monitors environment to
identify improper access.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience:
The ideal candidate must have 10-12 years of experience, with at least the
last 5-7 years as senior/lead Oracle DBA on all aspects of Oracle Database
Administration in a large/challenging database environment on Unix / Linux
platform. Extremely strong database performance and SQL tuning skills.
Thorough knowledge of understanding and interpreting Oracle Stats pack, AWR and
ADDM reports. Experience working on 10g RAC database applications, Oracle OEM
Grid control, RMAN is a plus. Hands on experience working with Power Designer
a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include:
a.. Good UNIX Sun Solaris, Linux, SQL Server knowledge is a plus.
b.. Skilled in SQL statement tuning and database performance tuning and
PL/SQL programming.
c.. Basic understanding of Connection pooling and middleware software like
JBoss, JRun, Tom Cat, IBM Web sphere is desired.
d.. Hands on Experience of implementing Oracle 9i and 10G database on UNIX
and Linux platform is a must.
e.. Willingness to work on-call DBA rotations in a 7x24 environment.
f.. Strong verbal and written communication skills
g.. Ability to perform professional level technical documentation and
presentation.
h.. Ability to create and maintain positive and professional business
relationships with both internal associates and external customers
i.. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment
j.. Proficient at time and priority management
