*Laurel, MD* *Duration – 1 yr. * *It's a govt. project. Rate is open.* *Repsonsible for the architecture and implementation of network communications. Utilizing their extensive knowledge of LAN/WAN systems, the individual in this position will take on responsibilities in areas of administration, engineering, architecture, and project management. The contractor will manage and assist in the day-to-day monitoring of the network infrastructure, provide troubleshooting and support, and ensure accurate and up-to-date technical documentation. The contractor will evaluate network systems to eliminate problems and to propose and implement system enhancements to ensure performance and reliability of the data network. This individual will also define, design, and implement internal and external network solutions and manage technical projects assigned to the team. The contractor will be responsible for tasks related to complex network solutions in data and voice convergence, B2B network connectivity, microwave network sytems maintenance, and remote access.* *Additionally, working with IT Security, the Senior Data Network Engineer will architect and implement required network security infrastructure. The Senior Data Network Engineer will stay abreast of knowledge in industry trends and best practices in order to develop and support an modern network architecture with a focus on speed, function, security and cost savings. The individual in this role relies heavily on their experience and independent judgement to develop solutions for difficult troubleshooting, repair and maintenance problems where complete documentation may not be available. The Contractor will approach assignments with considerable creativity and innovation. As a Senior IT professional, the individual will contribute to achieving the IT Departmental Work Plan and actively supports development and execution of organization wide annual action items.* * * *Qualifications, Experience and Certifications:* * * *Experience in operations, project applicaitons, and project management (some experience in maintaining electronic/communications systems, including microwave systems is desired by not required).* *- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other related technical discipline, or five (5) additional years of relevant IT professional experience.* *- a minimum of five (5) yrs. of exp. in data communications administration and enterprise network operations with demonstrated exp. in meeting business users' requirements and SLAs.* *- Hands-on exp. with routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF & BGP), compression algorithms, server/application load-balancing, CheckPoint Firewall, HSRP, Cisco IOS, packet prioritization or quality of service (QoS) and performance tuning.* *- Exp. in system monitoing technologies (ie. SNMP, HP OpenView etc.) and implementing ITIL methodologies to proactively monitor infrasturcture environments.* *- Active industry network certification such as CCNA and/or CCIE.* *PREFERENCES:* *The individual must satisfy all or substantially all of the following:* *- Exp. with designing and implementing network redundancy and load-balancing.* *- Exp. with emerging voice and data convergence technologies.* *- Hands-on familiarity with HP OpenView and SNMP is a plus.* *- Direct experience with network protocol analysis, Citrix NetScaler load balancers, CheckPoint firewall and HP Network Node Manager (NNM) v8.0i is a plus.* *- Familiarity with systems automation and scripting technologies.* *- CCNP, CCDP or CCVP certifications* *- Cisco 'Expert' level (CCIE) certifications.* -- Please send the updated resume of the consultant along with the rate, location and contact information.
