Job Description & Required skills: The Business Analyst works closely with Business and Functional personnel to evaluate business drivers and technology requirements, and defines systems strategies and specifications tailored to meet business requirements. The Business Analyst acts as a primary point of contact with the business on behalf of the application development organization. In this capacity, the Business Analyst is also a leader for change and process improvement. The Business Analyst has primary responsibility for managing the Requirements Analysis process, a key component of the software development life cycle. Using industry standard analysis techniques and best practices, this key player solicits client requirements, analyzes business and information technology requirements, and prepares essential systems specifications packages to be delivered by the application development team. Additionally, this person participates in system testing, training, implementation, and support, coordinating and facilitating requirements to deliver a complete application service to the business. Knowledge of the business and/or functional area is highly desirable. The Business Analyst role requires significant interpersonal interaction with business/functional personnel; meeting/interview/workshop facilitation is a key activity of the role. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE (Knowledge and experience necessary to do job) Related Work Experience · Four (4) to six (6) years related experience, including three (3) to five (5) years of systems development experience which includes system implementation, conversions, training, documentation and acceptance. · Two (2) years of solid experience in the design and development of department-wide or enterprise-wide applications. · Experience with information technology management concepts, including technology investment planning and cost/benefit analysis. a.. Knowledge and demonstrated track record of implementing new applications incorporating best practices for financial consolidations and reporting, month-end close, business analytics, and FPA decision support process/technologies. · Experience with Oracle EPM solutions (Hyperion Planning, Essbase, Financial Data Quality Manager and Financial Management) is desired. Formal Education or Equivalent Bachelors Degree - Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration or equivalent experience. MBA in Finance is desirable but not required. Skills · Business / Functional Knowledge - understands business drivers and core application functionality in area of focus. · Customer-focused - establishes and maintains customer relationships; highly skilled in managing customer expectations. · Communication Skills - strong listening, and oral/written communications skills, include the ability to facilitate interactive sessions with business / functional personnel. · Interpersonal Skills - able to interact effectively at all organizational levels, function in a team-driven environment, and manage conflict effectively and constructively. · Results-oriented with creative approach to solving business problems. · Leadership, negotiation and consensus-building - able to facilitate discussion and lead team to reach resolution. · Business Process Improvement and Change Management - awareness and focus on continuous improvement; seeks and is comfortable recommending change. · Technical · Knowledge of software development (preferably Oracle EPM/Hyperion) life cycle with emphasis on Requirements Analysis. · Knowledge of core application(s) functionality and requirements within area of focus. · Maintains awareness of emerging technology in area of focus. · Analytical Skills - inclusive of business statistics and quantitative decision-making. · Project Management - knowledge of project management fundamentals; able to use project management tools and participate effectively in a structured project management environment. · Quality - understands and applies software quality management concepts, including testing and service level agreement management. · Advocacy - ability to develop use cases for role-based requirements (ie, management user vs. budget preparer), assist in the coordination of user acceptance testing and ensure applications development meets the needs of the business/finance users. Other · Ability to work effectively in teams is required. Includes instances where team membership spans multiple business units, locations or countries, and/or utilizes 3rd-party (offshore) resources. · Must be systems-oriented, enjoy working with new tools and be a self-motivated learner. · Must be able to work with senior management in developing and implementing new processes and enabling systems. a.. Maintain relationships with vendors, consultants or contractors, and professional organizations to grow organizational knowledge of processes, software, and systems. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance) a.. Work closely and interactively with the business as a primary point of contact for the application organization; develops and maintains understanding of key business drivers and impacts. Assists clients with identifying and solving business challenges. b.. Facilitate analysis of functional requirements and design of technology specifications, working with business/functional personnel and capturing requirements through interactive sessions with clients. c.. Define functional design and systems specifications and prepare and deliver system specification packages to applications development team. d.. Work closely with application development personnel, working effectively in multiple delivery models (onsite, outsource, offshore), as appropriate. e.. Participate and provide guidance to Business and Functional Units in developing and completing system testing, training, and implementation-related activities. f.. Participate in the development of project proposals and related financial planning, including analysis and development of business case (cost/benefit) analysis. g.. Work closely with Project Manager, providing input into project planning, scheduling, and budgeting. h.. Coordinate project activities and schedules with client in support of service delivery / project objectives. i.. Use and advocate established standards, guidelines and tools; seek and introduce new tools and best practices as part of continuous improvement methodology. a.. Adherence to Pearson's internal Project Management processes, e.g. POLARIS, Sarbanes-Oxley IT Controls, etc. b..
