If I am not wrong,
then you can use the alternate database if its replicated (while the data
is being copied live)
where as you can't write to DB if its standy..

It's neither.  What you described is just copying a database from one
server
to another.  Standby and replication requires setup that's more than just
copying datafiles.

I tried to export/import, I lost data and constraints. So now I'm
considering
replication or standby database.
