Chris Spence was kind enough to mention PDQout in his response
to this question and the debate since then seems to have revolved
around whether exp/imp will still be around to reload archive data.
There can be no debate with PDQout however. It creates flat files
which can be reloaded with sqlldr (compare the speed of that with
the speed of imp), or any other bulk loader. So you can be sure
that you can reload into Oracle or into any other database, at any
time in the future. Additionally, as PDQout makes use of the
Oracle Call Interface, it can work across SQL*Net or download a
view, saving a lot of processing when preparing data for a datamart.
Sorry for the plug but what would you have done :-)
Anyway to assuage your anger, you can get a FREE version of
PDQout from our website, which will allow the downloading of
tables of up to 250k rows.
Oh! Just one thing, that version can't download views,
we're not that stupid :-)
