Platform Aix 4.3.3 / Oracle 8.1.7 EE
Two months ago, i tried to use 3DES
(new in 8.1.7 DBMS_OBFUSCATION toolkit)
and i got an error saying that i had to install
Advanced Security Option to use this algorithm
(for simple DES you don't get this error)
So, depending on the algorithm you want to use,
you can have extra cost as ASO is not free at all.
Check carefully with your Oracle rep as i never get
a definitive answer on that matter.
