List, Has anyone downgraded from 7.0 Linux to 6.2 linux with Oracle 8.1.7.0.1 installed? Any pit falls that need to be taken care of? Reason being, I started with 6.2 and installed Oracle 8.1.7.0.1 and all was fine. Upgraded the os to 7.0 and all was fine. Tried to add a new option to Oracle 8.1.7.0.1 and Oracle continually get the "end of communication channel". I have followed the steps outlined in the ftp.kernel.org web site and still no luck. I have uninstalled the Oracle and reinstalled but still no luck. I have all of my datafiles, controlfiles, and .ora files. I am not able to perform a backup as I do not have a tape drive or disk space to do a 70 GIG database. I only have 20 GIG free on my drives. 1 10GIG and 2 40GIG drives. Any ideas? What would be the easiest way to migrate the OS to Solaris 8 for Intel is possible. This is not a development box or a production box. Just a test box to look at the possible OS/Oracle combinations.
