A similar sized DB of ours takes about 1 hour to get done. Certainly would also depend on the machine specs. Ours is a RS/6000, 8Gb, AIX4.3.3 . We back it up to our tape server using TDPO (Tivoli).
Allocate 4 channels to it and the channel command is
allocate channel ADSM1 type 'SBT_TAPE' parms 'ENV=(DSMO_NODE=CCSSPROD,DSMI_DIR=/usr/lpp/adsm/api,DSMI_CONFIG=/oracle/adsm/dsm.opt,DS
MO_PSWDPATH=/oracle/adsm,DSMO_AVG_SIZE=20000)
Other RMAN parameters are the default. We have 297 datafiles to back up.

Hi All,

I use RMAN to do a full backup of 120G database while the database is up
running. It takes around 6 hours to finish. I have 61 data files and
manually allocate 6 channels. For all the RMAN parameters such as
FILESPERSET, I take the default.

Does anybody there know how to maximize the throughput?

Thanks,

Michael
