The manglement who nearly drove IBM to extinction went to DEC, which
promptly went from #2 to dying to dead, purchased -- along with their
exec's -- by Compaq that is now being swallowed by HP.  Notice that a
Compaq exec will be CEO of the joint arrangement.  Best guess from
history will be that the new crew will manage to break HP.  Either HP
will end up spinning off its computer division amid major losses to
Sun in a few years or the computer division will drag down the rest
of a [rather profitable] company with it.
