Oh yea, you'd have to buy a cabinet, 
some local powersupplies and fans, 
and it would have to be SCSI cabling. 

That's a standard and should be able
to made to work with many unix vendor's
hardware. 

then again, maybe I am smoking crack.

Don't forget you need to purchase a storage device to put
a terabyte in.  We have a third party app that wants 6TBs.
We went with 1TB instead and won't hold as much data as 
we would like.  Of course we intend on increasing that after.
We use mostly HP here so we are getting a FC60 with 12 disks (I think).
Much more then 10K.

Kind of agree.    Get an IBM Deskstar model...close to 100 GB....buy
ten at maybe, what? a grand each......and VOILA a terabyte for about
10K. 

Not exactly "infinite budget"!
