Raj, The AUTOALLOCATE option causes the tablespace to b created with a bitmap containing one bit for each data block. Oracle controls the extent size. When we create an object in the tablespace, Oracle will start out by allocating 64KB extent to that object. As the object grows, more 64KB extents will be added. Use the UNIFORM SIZE clause to manage storage space in extents that r larger than one block. CREATE TABLESPACE <tablespace_name> DATAFILE '/PATH OF DATAFILE' SIZE 1000M EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL UNIFORM SIZE SIZE 50M.
The Uniform extent size will b rounded up to the nearest integer multiple of the database block size. Here, the bitmap will contain one bit for each 50MB of storage space in the tablespace. Oracle will allocate the initial extent of 64KB even if we ask for less. Also remember, begining with the 16th extent, Oracle will increase the default extent size from 64KB to 1MB. Hope this helps. If AUTOALLOCATE is specified for LMT, how does oracle determine the next extent size? TIA Raj ______________________________________________________ Rajendra Jamadagni MIS, ESPN Inc.
