you reminded me of another few: make sure that number columns/primary keys are really numeric (I have a 3rd party design that doesn't)
make sure that char columns really need to BE char columns. This can cause you problems way down the line on the other hand, don't indiscriminately create varchar2 columns of length 255 or 2000 or whatever the max is in the version you are running.
