vim!  Indeed my favorite editor - gvim if I feel a need for a GUI look and 
feel.

If you are a Unix dba, know vi - it is almost guaranteed to be available on 
every system you touch.  Or so a wise man once told me.  

And, then once it gets in your blood, you forget why you needed another 
editor.
