Ron is right that you have to populate Cognos, whereas Brio can attach to basically 
every type of
database from manufacturer to Application to Data Warehouse. I've gone into companies 
and made
Brio answer questions which shouldn't have been asked of any database, let alone one 
that wasn't
built correctly. No programming is necessary for Brio, unless you want to web-ify your 
reports. As
a Brio jockey, who was never a programmer, picking up JavaScript is a piece of cake. 
By the way,
I'm not a Brio salesman, just a data warehouse consultant.
