>From what I have heard from a board member of the Norwegian OUG in
Madrid two years ago, Oracle's marketing strategy is quite the opposite
of Larry's: instead of having a single, mega 'OracleWorld' event in the
US, they have gone for several ones (including, if I remember well,
parallel 'OracleWorld' conferences last year in Berlin, Paris, Madrid
and Milan. The three last ones were Mickey Mouse conferences, Larry was
in Berlin - but broadcasted 'live' to the other sites). Cost-cutters at
Oracle have decided that they could no longer sponsor the EOUG
conferences with all these pure-Oracle conferences. The problem was the
other sponsors (hardware manufacturers), who were likely to follow
Oracle (especially those which are not in the best of financial health).
Hence the 'new business plan'.
