It may be a mistake to consider yourself a UNIX beginner.

You can buy many books aimed at beginners, but they mainly attempt to teach
you many commands you can issue from the command line.

Even if you're a rank beginner, I'd suggest the book on the Korn Shell from
O'Reilly publishing. It's easy to understand.

If you use a typical beginner's book, you'll never get past simply typing
commands, and you won't even be very good at that. But if you use the Korn
Shell book you'll learn to write shell scripts, which you really want to
know if you're an Oracle DBA, and since the shell scripts are made up of
UNIX commands you'll learn those too, and end up being very good at them.

A woman can't be half pregnant. An Oracle DBA can't learn half of UNIX --
that approach leaves you with few skills and big gaps in your abilities ...
forget the beginner books.
