OK. I followed Jared's suggestions and set the following:
HKLM\software\Oracle\ora_<sid>_shutdown="TRUE"
\ora_<sid>_shutdown_type="i"
\ora_<sid>_shutdown_timeout="300" (5 minutes)
HKLM\system\CurrentControlSet\Control\WaitToKillService="300000"
Whether it was necessary or not, I rebooted the machine after changing
the settings.
When I go to settings->services and stop OracleService<SID> it still does
a shutdown-abort. The dialog box returns in less than 20 seconds.
FWIW, when I do a shutdown-immediate from DBA studio, it takes about 90
seconds.
After shutting the database down in this fashion, the settings->services
dialog box still showed OracleService<SID> as "started". In order to
restart
the instance, I had to stop the service and restart it.
What am I missing here?
Thanks,
