Maybe they do not want to reinvent the wheel???? I mean, there are so many tools out there that allow you to dump a table out. Take a Perl script that would take 3 minutes to write for example. The account I joined has a rather nifty C script. You get to modify it to perfectly suite your environment with very little effort.
I am just guessing. I have no real idea. But I could see where its not really worth their effort. It will not ever be a selling point for me when it comes down to deciding which database I want to go with. -----Original Message----- Thomas F Sent: Monday, April 01, 2002 7:18 AM To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L S I've never understood Oracle's business plan when it comes to development/data extraction tools. It's like they are only "half interested" in that end of the market. Sure, they have Forms, Reports, Graphs, JDeveloper, Discoverer etc. But they always seemed weaker than even the nearest competitor. It's like they "depend on" the 3rd party market to suport the in's and out's of getting data from their database. I guess, after all, they are a DBMS company, and everything else is after-market. Kinda leaves us (the DBA's) in the lurch either recommending or making do with whatever the client/company has on hand. Just my little observation.
